Believer’s position above principalities and powers

Ephesians 1:19-23, “¹⁹ and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength ²⁰ he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, ²¹ far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. ²² And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, ²³ which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.

There is a verse in Ephesians that Satan prays you never discover. It legally places you above principalities, powers, and rulers of darkness. Once you see it, you will never beg God to protect you again.

Most believers spend their entire Christian life ducking and dodging the enemy. They bind him on Monday and fear him on Tuesday. They pray for protection like they are outnumbered, outgunned, and outmatched. They treat spiritual warfare like a boxing match where the outcome is still uncertain.

But I need to tell you something that is going to permanently alter the way you face every spiritual battle for the rest of your life. You are not in a fight where the outcome is unknown. You are not a soldier on a battlefield hoping your side wins. You are an enforcer of a verdict that was already handed down 2,000 years ago.

And Ephesians 1:19–23 is the hidden legal document that proves it.  Most Christians have read right past it. They have underlined it, posted it on social media, said amen to it in a church service, but they have never grasped the staggering legal reality it contains.

Because if they had, if you truly understood what those four verses are saying about your position in Christ, you would never approach a spiritual battle the same way again. You would never beg, plead, or fear again.

Stay with me because in the next lines I am going to walk you through the most legally precise, most strategically explosive truth that ever uncovered from the pages of the New Testament. And once it drops from your head into your spirit, the enemy loses his greatest weapon against you, which is your own ignorance of where you actually stand. Let that the Word of God change your life.

The Verse Satan Doesn’t Want You to See: –   See Ephesians chapter 1 and let’s start at verse 19. Paul is not writing theology here. He is not crafting a doctrinal essay. He is praying. He is crying out to God that the eyes of the believers’ understanding would be enlightened. And why? Because he knew that what he was about to reveal was so far beyond common Christian thinking that most people would never grasp it without a supernatural revelation.

He writes in Ephesians 1:19–23, and I want you to hear every word:  ““¹⁹ and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength ²⁰ he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, ²¹ far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. ²² And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, ²³ which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way”.

Now stop right there. Do you see what just happened?  Paul just described the exact legal position of Jesus Christ after the resurrection. He was raised from the dead. He was seated at the right hand of the Father. He was placed legally, permanently, officially far above every principality, far above every power, far above every ruler, far above every name that could ever be named in this age or the age to come.

And then—and this is the verse that changes everything—he says that God gave Jesus to be the head over all things to the church, which is His body.

His body: –   You are His body. That means the position described in Ephesians 1:19–22 is not just Jesus’ position. It is the position of His body. It is your position. Because where the head goes, the body goes. You cannot separate a head from its body and call them two different legal entities. They are one.

The New Kind of Love that the church has failed to see itself as the body of Christ in any vital, living sense. I want you to hear this slowly:  “We are the completeness, the fullness of Him who fills all in all. We are His body. We are Him expressed in the earth.” Him expressed in the earth.

That is not arrogance. That is not spiritual pride. That is the sober, biblical, legally precise declaration of who you are in Christ. The principalities shudder at that truth. Now let us talk about what is under your feet.

Ephesians 1:21 says Jesus was placed far above all principality and power and might and dominion and every name that is named. These are not vague spiritual forces. The Greek word for principality here is archē. It means rulers, chief powers, governing authorities in the unseen realm. The word for power is exousia, delegated authority.

These are structured hierarchies of demonic governance that operate over regions, cities, families, and nations. Paul describes them in more detail in Ephesians 6:12: “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”

These are real. These are organized. These are not metaphors. But here is what the modern church completely misses: The very same verse that tells you what you are fighting also tells you where you are seated.  And where you are seated determines how you fight.

Ephesians 2:6 says: “And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus.” You are not fighting from the ground up. You are not fighting from a position of weakness, reaching up and hoping to touch power that might come down to help you. You are seated in heavenly places. And where are the principalities and powers? They are under your feet. Not under God’s feet up there somewhere. Under your feet. Because you are in Christ, and He is the head of His body, and His body shares His legal position.

“You are as much seated in heavenly places as Christ is seated in heavenly places.” It is not a future promise. It is a present-tense reality. The believer’s position is not on earth looking up at heaven. The believer’s position is in Christ, seated above every force the enemy commands. Seated. Not struggling. Not climbing. Not begging. Seated.

This is why the enemy fights your identity harder than anything else. If he can keep you thinking like a ground-level believer, he does not have to fight the authority you carry. You will neutralize yourself. You will stay confused, defeated, and powerless—all while sitting on a throne you have never bothered to occupy.

Now, I need to slow down here and make sure you understand the legal architecture of what we are dealing with because this is not emotional language. This is not motivational speech. This is covenant law operating in the spiritual realm. When we talk about rank, authority, and position in the spirit, we are talking about something that functions like a court system. The spiritual realm is a realm of law, of precedent, of rights, and jurisdiction.

Satan himself is not primarily described in Scripture as a destroyer. Revelation 12:10 describes him as the accuser of the brethren. He is a legal challenger. He operates by raising accusations, exploiting ignorance, and manufacturing illegitimate authority by getting believers to agree with his lies. This is why knowledge is not optional in your spiritual life.

Hosea 4:6 says: “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.” Not lack of prayer. Not lack of sincerity. Not lack of church attendance.  Lack of knowledge—specifically knowledge of their standing before God and their authority in Christ. Here is the chain of authority as Scripture establishes it: God the Father sits supreme over all creation. He delegated all authority in heaven and on earth to Jesus Christ after the resurrection.

Jesus saying, “All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.” That is a legal transfer of authority. Jesus then delegated that authority to His body, the Church. Luke 10:19 says: “Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” This is not a future promise. This is present-tense delegation. This is a power of attorney.

Jesus handed the body of Christ the legal right to use His name, to enforce His victory, to execute His judgments in the earth. And every principality, every demonic power, every ruler of darkness exists somewhere below that chain of authority—below you. The tragedy is that most believers have the badge, but they have never learned how to use it.  They have the authority, but they walk around in fear of the very forces that are legally required to submit to them.

It is as if a police officer spent his entire career hiding from criminals he had the legal authority to arrest.  You have the badge. You have the jurisdiction. The question is: will you enforce it? Let me be direct with you right now because this is where most Christians get it completely wrong. And I say this not to shame you, but to set you free.

The number one reason believers live beneath their legal rank in Christ is not a lack of prayer. It is not a lack of fasting. It is not even a lack of faith in the conventional sense. It is a wrong understanding of spiritual posture. Most Christians approach spiritual warfare from a position of fear and defense. They pray reactively. They beg God to step in. They plead for angels to come. They ask God to please handle the situation that they have already lost ground in because they did not know they had authority over it in the first place.

This is what called sense-knowledge praying.  You see the problem with your physical eyes. You feel the pressure with your physical senses, and you respond to what your senses are reporting instead of responding to what the Word of God declares about your standing in Christ.

Sense knowledge says: “There is a principality over this situation, and it is bigger than me.”

Revelation knowledge says: “I am seated in heavenly places in Christ Jesus, far above all principality and power, and this thing is under my feet.”

Sense knowledge prays: “God, please help me. I’m being attacked.”

Revelation knowledge declares: “Satan, I’m enforcing the verdict. You have no authority here. In the name of Jesus, I command this situation to align with the Word of God.”

Do you see the difference?  One is a request. The other is enforcement. One assumes the battle is still in question. The other assumes the verdict has already been rendered, and the believer is simply the officer executing the court’s decision. “The modern believer is like a man who has been given a check for a million dollars but lives like a pauper because he has never been to the bank to cash it.”

The authority is real. The resources are real. But as long as he does not know how to access them, he lives in poverty in the middle of abundance. You have been given a check.  Ephesians 1 is the check. Your position in Christ is the bank account.  But ignorance keeps believers outside the bank, living beneath the provision that has already been secured. Now let us go back to Ephesians 1:22 and look at three of the most comprehensive words in the New Testament:

All things.  “And hath put all things under His feet.” All things. Not most things. Not the things that are not too difficult. Not the spiritual challenges that are not too extreme. All things. Every disease. Every demonic force. Every financial principality. Every spirit of fear. Every stronghold of addiction. Every power of depression. Every principality of death and destruction. All of it.

Every name that could ever be named is under the feet of Christ. And Christ is the head of His body. And you are His body. The implication is staggering. There is no sickness that outranks you. There is no demon that outranks you. There is no financial curse that outranks you. There is no generational stronghold that outranks you.  Everything the enemy has brought against your life, your family, your health, and your finances is operating beneath your position in Christ.

The only reason any of it has any effect is because it has gone unenforced. And ignorance has allowed illegal squatters to remain on territory that belongs to you. Think about this practically. If you owned a piece of land and someone built an illegal structure on it, the structure would not be there because they had a legal right to put it there.  It would be there because you did not know you owned the land or did not know how to enforce your property rights.

The moment you discovered the deed was in your name and you took that deed to the proper authority; the illegal structure would have to come down. Sickness in the body of a believer is an illegal structure. Depression in the mind of a new creation is an illegal structure. Poverty in the life of a covenant partner is an illegal structure. They are not there because the enemy has the right to put them there. They are there because the believer has not enforced the deed. And the deed, beloved, is the blood of Jesus Christ.

1 Peter 2:24 declares it plainly: “Who his own self bares our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.” Past tense. Already accomplished. Already settled.

Were healed. Not will be healed when God gets around to it. Were healed at the cross two thousand years ago. The healing already happened in the legal realm. What is needed now is not God doing something new. What is needed is a believer who knows their rank and enforces what already belongs to them.

Now let me tell you about the weapon. Because knowing your rank is not enough. You need to know how rank is exercised in the spiritual realm. Ephesians 1:21 says that Jesus is placed above every name that is named. And Philippians 2:9–10 tells us exactly what that means in practice:

“Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth.”  Every knee. Everything in heaven. Everything in earth. Everything under the earth. That includes every principality, power, ruler of darkness, and spiritual wickedness in high places that Ephesians 6:12 identifies as your adversaries. They all bow to that name. And here is the power of attorney that changed everything.  John 14:13–14: “And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.”

And Mark 16:17: “And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils.” In My name. Not in your own strength. Not in your own righteousness. Not on the basis of how long you have fasted or how many chapters you have read. In the name that is above every name that is named. When you speak that name in faith, backed by a revelation of your position in Christ, the entire hierarchy of demonic government has no choice but to respond.

The Wonderful Name of Jesus:  “The name of Jesus is the Father’s investment in the Church.” When you use that name with authority—not as a magic word, but as a legal representative who understands the covenant—heaven backs you. Every angel in the realm of God hearkens to that name. And every demon in the realm of the enemy trembles at it. Here is the practical reality.

You are not using the name of Jesus to get God’s attention. You are using the name of Jesus to enforce a verdict that God the Father already issued when He raised Jesus from the dead. The dead and seated Him far above all principality and power.  You are the officer in the earth. The name is your badge. The Word of God is your warrant. And the blood of Jesus is your jurisdiction.

Every spiritual battle is not a request for God to fight. It is an announcement that the fight is already over and you are here to enforce the outcome.  Now, let me speak to some of you who are feeling the weight of this revelation not as liberation but as condemnation. You are thinking, “If I have had all this authority all along, why has my life looked the way it has?” You’re feeling the sting of years of living below your position in Christ. Years of sickness, fear, financial pressure, and spiritual defeat—all while sitting on a throne you did not know you had. I want you to hear me clearly, brother. I want you to hear me clearly, sister. God is not angry with you for not knowing. Condemnation is not coming from the father.  Condemnation is coming from the accuser who is desperate to keep you distracted by your past failures so you never fully step into your present authority.

Romans 8:1 is absolute, and it is for you: “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus.”  None.  Not some. None. Whatever you have missed, whatever ground you have yielded, whatever battles you have lost through ignorance, the blood of Jesus has covered it and the covenant still stands.

Your position in Christ is still intact. Ephesians 1 is still true about you today, right now, in this moment. Regardless of what your past looks like, the father’s posture toward you is not disappointment. It is the posture described in Ephesians 1:5—adoption.  He predestined you to adoption as a son, as a daughter. And when a child is adopted into a royal family, the child’s past does not change the inheritance.

What changes is the revelation—the moment when the child finally understands who they are, what family they have been brought into, and what that family’s name carries in the earth. Today is your moment of revelation. Today is the day you stop living like an orphan and start walking in the authority of a son.  Today is the day you stop treating spiritual warfare like an uncertain contest and start enforcing the verdict that was already rendered at the cross.

Your heavenly Father is not waiting for you to prove yourself worthy of this authority. He gave it to you when you were born again. It came with the package. It is yours. Now walk in it. I need to address something directly because there are people reading this message who have been in church their entire lives and have never once heard a message on Ephesians 1:20–23 that explained the believer’s position above principalities and powers.

And there is a reason for that. Religious tradition—the kind that Jesus confronted in Matthew 15:6, where He declared that it made the commandment of God of no effect—has systematically reduced the authority of the believer to passivity.

It has taught a generation of Christians that humility means helplessness. That spiritual maturity means learning to endure suffering rather than enforce victory. That the appropriate response to demonic attack is to cry out for God to rescue you rather than to rise up in the authority He has already given you. This is not biblical humility. This is spiritual ignorance wearing the costume of humility. True biblical humility is not weakness before the enemy. True biblical humility is absolute, total submission to God that produces absolute, total authority over the enemy.

James 4:7 is one verse, not two separate teachings: “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”  The submission and the resistance are inseparable. The deeper your submission to God, the more devastating your resistance to the enemy. The problem is that religious tradition has kept the first half of that verse—submit—while quietly removing the second half—resist. It has produced a church full of submitted, sincere, completely passive believers who have no idea that the devil is supposed to be fleeing from them, not chasing them.

“The trouble with the modern Christian is that he has been so occupied with his weakness that he has completely forgotten his strength.” He has been told so often that he is nothing that he has accepted it as his identity. But the Word of God declares that he is a new creation, that he has the nature of God in his spirit, that he is a representative of heaven in the earth. And the enemy has nothing to say about it. The enemy has nothing to say about it. That is your position. That is your rank. And it is time you lived from it.

Now let’s get specific because revelation without application is just information. Faith is not mental agreement but Faith is acting on the Word. So here are five practical steps you can begin implementing immediately to walk in the authority of Ephesians 1.

1: Renew Your Mind to Your Position Daily: – Romans 12:2 says: “Be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” You cannot walk in authority from a position your mind does not recognize. Every single morning before you engage with the world, declare Ephesians 1:20–23 out loud over yourself—not as a ritual, but as a conscious acknowledgment of your identity in Christ.

You are positioning yourself spiritually before you set foot into the natural realm. When your mind is saturated with where you are seated, you will not respond to the enemy from a position of fear.

2: Respond with God’s Word: – There is a massive difference between praying in fear and responding in faith. When sickness manifests, stand on 1 Peter 2:24: “By whose stripes ye were healed.” When fear attacks, declare 2 Timothy 1:7: “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” Stand on the promises of God’s Word and speak them over your situation.

3: Use the Name of Jesus with Faith: – Philippians 2:10 says: “At the name of Jesus every knee should bow.” The name of Jesus points to His finished work, His victory, and His authority. When you pray, worship, or minister in Jesus’ name, do so with faith in who He is and what He has accomplished.

4: Guard Your Confession: – Proverbs 18:21 says: “Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” You cannot continually confess fear, lack, sickness, and defeat while expecting to walk in victory. When circumstances speak to you, answer with Scripture. When the bank account screams lack, declare Philippians 4:19. When the body screams sickness, declare Isaiah 53:5. When the enemy whispers condemnation, declare Romans 8:1. Your confession should consistently agree with God’s Word. Protect it diligently.

5: Act Like What You Believe Is True Before the Evidence Appears: – This is the step that separates mental assent from heart faith. Heart faith acts before it sees. Hebrews 11:1 says: “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” The evidence is not in your bank account, your body, or your circumstances. The evidence is in the Word of God. When you begin acting as if Ephesians 1:19–23 is describing your actual present-tense reality, when you stand up, speak with authority, and refuse to be intimidated by what your senses are reporting, you are releasing the force that moves mountains.

“Faith is simply acting on the Word of God as you would act on the word of a trusted friend.” If a lawyer told you the money was in your account, you would go spend it.  God’s Word is a legal document from the Supreme Court of Heaven. When you act on it, heaven is obligated to back it up. Act on the Word today. Not when you feel it. Not when you see it.

Now. I want to close by doing something very specific. I want to bring you back to the verse we started with because I want it to become more than information. I want it to become your identity.

Ephesians 1:20–23: God raised Christ from the dead and seated Him at His own right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality and power and might and dominion and every name that is named, not only in this world but also in the world to come, and put all things under His feet and gave Him to be the head over all things to the church, which is His body.

You are His body. That means every power of darkness is beneath you. Every principality operating against your family is beneath you. Every spirit of infirmity that has parked itself on your body is beneath you. Every financial curse that has run in your bloodline is beneath you. Every voice of fear, condemnation, and despair is beneath you. You have not been trying to get to a position of authority. You were placed in a position of authority the moment you were born again. The only thing that has to change is your consciousness—your deep internal awareness of where you stand.

“The greatest discovery of the human heart is not the discovery of fire or the invention of the wheel. It is the discovery by the new creation of who he is in Christ. “When a man truly knows who he is, no devil can keep him down. No devil in hell can keep you down. Not because you are powerful in yourself. Not because you have earned the right through righteousness of your own. But because you are in Christ. And in Christ, every enemy is under your feet. In Christ, every prayer is backed by the authority of the throne. In Christ, every word you speak in faith carries the authority of heaven behind it. Stand up, believer. Take your seat. Not up in heaven somewhere, unreachable and theoretical. Your seat is in heavenly places in Christ Jesus, which means it is available to you right now, today, in the middle of whatever you are facing. You access it not by dying and going to heaven. You access it by renewing your mind, guarding your confession, and walking in the Word. The enemy is not waiting for you to be more spiritual.

He is waiting to see if you will ever figure out that he has already been defeated. Do not give him another day of ignorance. Do not give him another hour of passive, fear-based praying. Do not give him another moment of standing in your life that does not belong to him. Enforce the verdict. Declare the Word.  Resist in the name of Jesus. And watch him flee.

Now, I want you to do something right now. Wherever you are, place your hand over your heart. Look at these words and speak out loud. Say them like you mean them because they are the truth of who you are in Christ:

I am the body of Christ.
I am seated in heavenly places far above all principality and power and might and dominion.
Every name that is named is beneath my feet because I am in Christ.
I do not beg the enemy to leave.
I stand firm in the victory Christ has won.
I enforce the verdict of the cross.
I stand in the name of Jesus with the authority of heaven behind every word I speak.
Satan has no authority over me.
No sickness, no fear, no lack, and no condemnation has any rightful claim on my life.
I am a representative of the Kingdom of God in this earth.
I stand in what Christ has already accomplished.
It is done.
It is settled.
And I walk in it starting today.

That is not arrogance. That is covenant truth.  Speak “I outrank every demon because I am in Christ.” Let it be your public confession.  “Ephesians 1:19–23 is my position in Christ.”

You are not ordinary.

You are not a victim of the devil’s schemes or the world’s systems.

You are the body of Christ.

You are the fullness of Him who fills all in all.

You are seated above every force that has ever attempted to steal your peace, your health, your finances, and your identity.

Now go live like it.

The verdict is in.

The enemy is defeated.

The victory belongs to Christ.

Walk in it.
